Add a pop of vibrancy to your home in the new year with Pantone's 2023 Color of the Year, coined Viva Magenta. The bold hue is a powerful crimson red that strikes the perfect balance between warm and cool. It's eye-catching and assertive, but not aggressive—and will encourage you to be more experimental in your design choices.
"As virtual worlds become a more prominent part of our daily lives, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release.

Pantone's nuanced hue descends from the red family and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes in the natural dye family. It is also one of the strongest and brightest dyes in the world. Using cochineal to influence Viva Magenta serves as a way to connect those who use its hue to nature.

"The last few years were transformative in many ways in terms of people's sense of self, and the way well-being, priorities, and identity are being thought about," said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute. "As a result, space has been created where we are free to explore and be accepted for exactly who we feel we are, whether it be in a cybernetic universe, a conventional space, or a magical blend of both."
With its 2023 shade, the brand aims to create a dynamic world that promotes creativity—and hopes Viva Magenta encourages people to explore groundbreaking possibilities and practice self-expression without restraint.
