People Are Drinking More Iced Coffee Than Ever Before, According To Starbucks

I'm the type of person who enjoys an iced coffee all year long. In fact, I'll almost never reach for a hot coffee drink if given a choice between the two. This might seem like a hot take but it actually seems to be the general preference now, and according to Starbucks, the large majority of their beverage sales these days are iced.
Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson shared during the Starbucks 2021 Q3 earnings report that 74 percent of beverage sales in Q3 were considered part of the "cold category" which is a 10 percent increase over the past two years. Similarly, a spokesperson for Starbucks said at a recent press event the iced pumpkin drinks outsold the hot Pumpkin Spiced Latte last year.
This might seem surprising considering the classic nature of hot coffee, but it is interesting to think about considering many people were inside last fall due to the pandemic and perhaps opted for an iced drink since they didn't need a warm drink to heat them up.
Still, just because the numbers seem to be trending upward as far as iced drinks and their popularity, there are so many options to choose from at your favorite coffee chains that satisfy both your hot and cold drink cravings.
Related: Starbucks announced a new fall drink, the apple crisp macchiato, which is as delightful hot as it is cold, with each experience different and enjoyable depending on your preference. Ultimately, you do you, but take this as your official receipt to no longer shame anyone for drinking iced coffee all year long.
