The Perfect Blend of Old and New
This house had us at exposed wood beams! Scrolling through the stunning photos of this home in the Berkshires, you would never know that the original home burned down - right before renovations were about to start! Despite the tragedy, the home owners and Jess Cooney Interiors were able to start fresh, rebuild, and redesign this classic farmhouse in all its glory. They made sure to incorporate all the necessities for a home like this - exposed wood beams, a large stone fireplace, and wide plank floors. The result? A fabulous family home that is a perfect blend of old and new! Take a look!
THE LIVING ROOM
The living room was inspired by the old living room in the home which had an original stone fireplace. We brought in a stone mason who did the fireplace by hand. The other living room is off the kitchen and is open to the whole space so this main living room with the larger stone fireplace is more of a getaway in the house for people to relax in a quieter spot.
THE KITCHEN
Our overall concept for the house was to have it feel as if it were always there and timeless. The kitchen was the center of it all so we used timeless materials like Danby Mabel, Pietra Cardosa stone and reclaimed wood for the island. We went with a simple shaker cabinet.
THE DINING ROOM
The dining room is more of a formal space in this home. We have a great breakfast nook off the kitchen that works for informal dinners or breakfast and the dining area is used more for holidays. The double-sided gas fireplace makes the overall space feel more open and less closed off from the rest of the house.
THE MASTER BEDROOM
The master is perched over the pond and we wanted it to feel light and airy but envelope you with the blue velvet draperies. We added the wood ceiling to break up the plaster walls and add another layer of interest.
THE BATHROOM
The master bath was done in a quiet soft way with galvanized metal for the tub and medicine cabinets. We brought the Cardosa and Danby back in from the kitchen here and then added interest with the linen geode patterned shades
THE KIDS ROOM
The kids' room with twin beds was done more for the two older boys that come to visit here and there. We used iron beds with a burlap style fabric on them. A deep blue wall was chosen to create a cozy space and we added a vintage rug with some color and pattern.
THE KIDS BATHROOM
The kids' bath was designed for my client's daughter. She is 11 and we wanted something that could transition with her. We kept the overall space very neutral with the white base and then added a pop of color with the wallpaper which could easily be removed down the line and it would completely transform the space.
