Phillip Lim Just Made UGGs Cool Again
When it comes to winter footwear, one brand clearly stands out from the pack. We are talking about UGG, of course — the California brand founded by Aussie Brian Smith whose signature sheepskin boots made their way into people’s shoe closets thanks to their superior quality, relaxed silhouette, and, most of all, comfort and warmth.
And since winter is slowly approaching, which means UGG season is near, the brand has given its classic shoe a very cool update. New York designer Phillip Lim collaborated with UGG on a men’s capsule collection that launched this week and is already on the brand's website.

The inspiration behind the eight styles is Lim’s native California, where he grew up before moving to the Big Apple.
“California is my eternal inspiration. It was the beginnings of subcultures of surf and skate. It was also the beginnings of MTV. I always remember seeing the coolest kids end up in UGGs,” Lim said in a promotional video for the collection. “I thought it would be fun to work with a reference from my childhood and see what it would look like today. I just decided to go back to my roots and all, how it all started for me.”
And the result is a laid-back '90s vibe with an emphasis on details such as zippers, pops of color, and printed acronyms. And while the design may be updated, you can count on the same great quality of the materials — full grain and sheepskin leather, canvas, and durable, lugged outsoles. There is even a duck boot that will save you during fall’s rainy days.
