Plan The Perfect Halloween Movie Marathon With These 45 Netflix Flicks
In between all your Halloween bashes and monster mashes, it’s always fun to fit in a movie night (or two) this ~spooky~ season—even if a horror flick scares the pants off you.
Whatever the season, you already know that Netflix has a treasure trove of (commercial-free) films that will pair perfectly with your choice of scarily-good treats and ghoulish snacks.
Of course, there are the classics like The Conjuring and A Nightmare on Elm Street, alongside newer, more buzz-worthy Netflix originals like Bird Box and Fear Street parts one, two and three.
Not to mention, the streaming service offers some foreign films for you to expand your horror repertoire beyond the Atlantic, like the Filipino thriller Eerie and the Spanish horror flick Veronica that had viewers so terrified, they had to turn it off halfway through.
If horror movies aren’t your thing, there are tons of scaredy cat-friendly options, too, if you’re not super sold on spending two hours covering your eyes. You can watch animated favorites like Monster House or Gnome Alone. And you can’t go wrong laughing your way through Scary Movie 5.
No matter what you end up watching, you might even find the perfect film-inspired Halloween costume while you’re at it. So, sit back, try your darndest to relax, and—worst case scenario—have a huggable throw pillow at the ready as you stream these 45 spooktacular Halloween movies on Netflix:
It
You'll...forever be afraid of clowns after watching this one. This 2017 remake of the 1990 original based on a novel by Stephen King, the king of horror himself, is scary good. ICYDK, after 27 years, murderous, bloodthirsty clown Pennywise emerges from his sewer home to terrorize the town's children, but, on his quest, is challenged by a group of outcasts.
Unfriended
A horror-thriller fit for the digital age. Unfriended tells the story of a group of teenagers who one night, while taking part in an online chatroom session, find themselves being stalked by an unseen figure using the account of a classmate who committed suicide the year prior to seek revenge for her death.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
This Netflix remake of the 1974 classic horror film follows a group of influencers trying to breathe new life into a Texas ghost town. Safe to say that these content creators are taken wayyy out of their comfort zone when they encounter Leatherface, an infamous serial killer who wears a mask of human skin.
The Boy
Greta, a young American woman, takes a job as a nanny for an 8-year-old boy in a remote English village. Which is all fine and dandy, except that "the boy" is actually a life-size doll that the couple use to cope with the death of their son, who passed 20 years ago. Things get weird when a series of unsettling events lead Greta to believe that the doll is actually alive.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
This 1984 classic slasher film is a super fun watch that most likely won't keep you up at night. ICYDK, the movie follows a group of Midwestern teens who fall prey to Freddy Krueger, a disfigured supernatural being that preys on them in their dreams, which, in turn, kills them in reality.
Halloween
After being committed to a mental institution for killing his stepfather and sister two decades ago, Michael Myers returns to wreak murderous havoc in his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois on Halloween. If not the best Halloween remake, this take on the 1978 classic horror is at least worth the watch.
Monster House
If you're looking for something more kid-friendly (aka nightmare-proof), add Monster House to your queue. This animated thriller-comedy follows a trio of friends as they try to destroy the terror that is their neighbor's home, which seems to have a life of its own and a craving for people.
Hell Fest
Love Six Flags' Fright Fest? Meet the fictional version: Hell Fest, a horror theme park travelling across the country during the Halloween season. But scary fun becomes legitimately terrifying when a masked serial killer targets a group of friends as their next victims, while the rest of the patrons think it’s all just part of the show.
A Babysitter’s Guide To Monster Sitting
Based on the book series by Joe Ballarini, this new family-friendly Netflix movie is all about a babysitter who tries to save a child abducted by monsters. Ya know, just normal babysitting stuff.
Nobody Sleeps In The Woods Tonight
A group of tech-obsessed teens go to offline camp. But a smartphone-free hike in the woods doesn’t go as planned when the campers discover a deadly danger lurking there.
Fear Street Trilogy
This movie trilogy based on R.L. Stine’s best-selling book series begins in a small town called Shadyside. In 1994, a group of teens learn that the terrifying events plaguing their town for decades are all connected. Oh, and the last piece of the puzzle? They may be the next targets.
The Conjuring
ICYDK, this scary AF film is based on the true story of the Perron family, who moved into a dilapidated Rhode Island farm house in 1971. Soon, strange and terrifying things start happening around the house. The family contacted paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren to examine their new home. The discovery? The whole area is steeped in a satanic haunting that now targets the Perron family.
The Conjuring 2
In this scary sequel (also based on a true story), the Warrens investigate a new home in London, England, where single mother Peggy Hodgson believes something evil is haunting her family. When the youngest daughter starts showing signs of demonic possession, the paranormal investigators try to help, only to find themselves the new targets of these devilish spirits.
Scary Movie 5
With a cast including Ashley Tisdale, Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, and Snoop Dogg, this movie may not be good per se, but stupidly entertaining? Totally. Watch this when you need a laugh after one too many jump scares.
Hostel Part 3
Four friends on a bachelor party in Las Vegas meet two sexy escorts who convince them to come to a private party. Once there, they’re horrified to find themselves the players in a perverse game of torture, hosted by members of the Elite Hunting Club.
Insidious
Insidious is one of the most buzz-worthy horror films of the past decade (eat your heart out, Paranormal Activity). It follows a family looking for answers when their son ends up in a coma after visiting the attic. (Seriously though, why does everything happen in the attic?) The coma actually has to do with a supernatural force...because of course it does.
Insidious 2
In this sequel, the Lamberts are ready to return to normal after fighting off the evil spirits that possessed their son, but they're not free from whatever forces are haunting their family just yet...especially when husband Josh becomes possessed as well. (Ah, here we go again.)
#ALIVE
When a virus rampages across the city and devastates the population, only one man manages to survive by staying locked inside his apartment. Digitally cut off from seeking outside help, he needs to find a way out—alive.
The Boy Who Cried Werewolf
Looking for something a lil' more family-friendly? In this Nickelodeon movie, teenagers Jordan and Hunter move to a Romanian castle with their dad after the trio unexpectedly inherit the estate from their late mother’s family. Once there, Jordan starts acting strange, and Hunter has a sneaking suspicion that his sister might just be…a werewolf.
Sabrina
Third in The Doll films, this Netflix original tells the super scary story of a toy manufacturer and his wife who are terrorized by a demon after their orphaned niece attempts to call her late mother’s spirit. Fans of the Chucky movies will likely be into this foreign film as well.
Hubie Halloween
Adam Sandler stars as Hubie Dubois, Halloween’s biggest fan who just wants everyone in his hometown of Salem to celebrate his favorite holiday happily and safely. Unfortunately, that makes him kind of a local laughingstock—that is, until one year when people start disappearing. It’s up to Hubie to save the day.
The Babysitter
When Cole stays up past his bedtime while his babysitter is watching him, he learns she's part of a satanic cult. Oh, and they'll stop at nothing to keep their secret from getting out.
The Babysitter: Killer Queen
Taking place two years after the original Babysitter movie, Cole might have survived a satanic cult, but now he has to deal with something worse: high school. And the demons he thought he defeated in the first film are back…with a vengeance.
I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House
Wanna watch a ghost story within a ghost story? The premise may sound simple—a young nurse cares for an elderly author living in a haunted house—but the film has twists and turns that blur the lines between reality and fantasy.
The Open House
In this Netflix original film, a mom and her teen son move to their relative’s vacation house in the mountains. Once they begin to settle in, eerie and unexplained incidents ensure they won’t feel at home for long.
Gnome Alone
Need some kid-friendly fare that won't keep you–or them—up all night? Stop scrolling. When high schooler Chloe moves into a new home, she discovers that the garden gnomes aren't exactly what they seem. In fact, they need her help saving the world from the Troggs.
The Influence
After moving back to her childhood home to help her sister care for her dying mother, nurse Alicia is haunted by old memories and must face an evil force now threatening her own child.
Malevolent
Before Florence Pugh scared the sh*t out of audiences in Midsommar, she starred in Malevolent. The horror film is about a brother-sister team of scammers who fake paranormal encounters to score cash—that is, until a job at a haunted county estate turns very, scary real.
Before I Wake
Get ready to be less than excited for bedtime after watching this film about a child whose dreams—and nightmares—manifest in the physical world when he closes his eyes. As much as the boy tries to stay awake, some well-intentioned, but unfortunate circumstances lead to the unleashing of a creature called "The Canker Man." Sweet dreams, y’all.
Bird Box
Even with the viral challenge and memes galore prompted by the film, Bird Box is still a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you haven’t yet watched the Netflix original yet, grab some friends and, even when the characters do, don’t you dare cover your eyes.
Death Note
If you found a mysterious notebook that had the power to kill anyone whose name is written in its pages, what would you do? See how high school student Light Turner handles the, let's just say, life-changing experience in this film loosely based on a Japanese manga of the same name.
Fractured
Fractured, a Netflix original movie, tells the story of a man who becomes convinced that a hospital is hiding something after his wife and daughter disappear from the ER. Odds are, his hunch is probably correct.
The Silence
Just when you thought monsters were the only thing you needed to be scared of, The Silence introduces a group of humans whose intentions may be even worse. With Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka, this film will both make you want to scream and not make a sound.
1922
1922 is based on a novella by Stephen King, so you know it’s going to be at least a little unsettling. After his wife decides that the country life is not for her and wants to sell the land she inherited from her father, Wilfred James convinces his son to help him kill her in order to keep the farm. And that, my friends, is just the beginning.
Creep
At this point, everyone has had an interesting experience with someone they met on Craigslist, but Creep (produced by and starring Mark Duplass) details what happens when everything about the interaction goes wrong.
Apostle
If there’s one thing you should always, always remember, it’s that when it comes to cults on desert islands, it’s best to leave them be. While you might not have needed that reminder (because duh), Thomas Richardson (played by Dan Stevens) didn’t get that memo before heading to a remote Welsh island on an ill-fated attempt to rescue his sister.
In The Shadow of The Moon
A police officer becomes obsessed with tracking a mysterious serial killer—which you know is never a good idea—who seems to reappear every nine years. Follow along with the detective as his investigation threatens his career, relationships, and maybe even his own sanity.
In The Tall Grass
In The Tall Grass is based on the novella of the same name by Stephen King and Joe Hill. After a sister and brother hear a young boy crying for help from a Kansas field, the two venture in to try to save him (which, almost inevitably, is the point in the film where you yell "That’s not a good idea!" at the screen).
Eerie
The first clue that something is off (to say the least) at this all-girls Catholic high school is when a student unexpectedly commits suicide. It’s soon discovered that all is not as it seems in this Filipino movie.
Eli
Eli is about an 11-year-old boy and his parents, who, desperate for a cure for his debilitating illness, check him into an isolated hospital. It’s probably safe to assume that they later come to regret that decision.
The Cloverfield Paradox
In the third installment of the Cloverfield franchise (produced by J.J. Abrams), a group of astronauts on a space station accidentally find themselves in a dark alternate dimension. Don’t you just hate it when that happens?
Veronica
A girl tries to use an Ouija board to contact her dead father but inadvertently lets an evil demon into her home (oops). This Spanish movie made headlines when it first hit Netflix in 2018 because people were so terrified, they had to stop watching it. You'll definitely want to leave the lights on for this one.
Hush
Silence is one of the scariest parts of horror films, and Hush uses that to its advantage. A writer, who is deaf, escapes to a cabin in the woods to focus, but a group of masked vigilantes attack her and her home. Pro tip: Do not watch this if you're (a) by yourself, (b) in a cabin, and (c) in the woods.
The Ritual
Netflix is known for its killer original content, and The Ritual is no exception. This film follows a group of buddies who decide to go on a hike in honor of their late friend. Obviously, they get lost, and a lot of creepy stuff goes down. If you're looking for something new to watch, The Ritual should be at the top of your list.
Rattlesnake
In this Netflix original film, a single mother finds herself a little in over her head after accepting help from a stranger in treating her daughter’s rattlesnake bite.
