French's just released a head-turning new product — do you dare to try it?

Today, French’s announced its brand new mustard beer, which, thankfully, will arrive just in time for National Mustard Day on Aug. 1 (which makes me question, how were we ever planning to celebrate the holiday without it?)

I already know what you’re thinking here — mustard belongs in a beer just as much as it belongs in ice cream. But, dear reader, I urge you to keep an open mind and give the mustard beer a chance, because it’s actually delicious.

Developed in partnership with Oskar Blues Brewery, the limited-release tropical wheat beer, which is brewed with French’s Classic Yellow? Mustard, is infused with key lime, lemon, tangerine and passion fruit — ya know, more typical flavors for beer.

The end product is a very light-bodied wheat beer with an almost sour twist, which makes it perfect for sipping by the pool on a hot summer day when you don’t want to get too full on beer, lest you risk missing out on hot dogs later on.

I must clarify, the beer itself does not actually taste like you are drinking mustard — if that is what you’re after, you may just want to mix in a tablespoon of the condiment into your brew of choice and call it a night. Rather, the French’s version just kind of adds a subtle, sophisticated zip of tang to the Oskar Blues — a highly welcome addition.

The rather unique beverage is a follow-up to last year’s wildly popular French’s Mustard Ice Cream, which sent shockwaves through social media.

“French’s enjoys creating new curiosity around a flavor that has been a staple in homes for over 115 years,” said Jill Pratt, Chief Marketing Excellence Officer for French’s, in a press release. “The incredible reaction to last year’s release of our Mustard Ice Cream showed us how far people are willing to go to savor this favorite condiment. We promise this French’s Mustard Beer will not disappoint either.”

French’s Mustard Beer will be available online through national craft beer marketplace CraftShack starting Aug. 1, as well as select Oskar Blues Brewery taprooms in Boulder and Longmont, Colo., and Brevard, N.C., while supplies last.
