Pokémon Is Coming To The Van Gogh Museum For Some Reason
Pokemon Van Gogh promo Pikachu and Eevee
Pokémon has been on a bit of a roll this year. Just when you think you’ve seen everything the franchise can offer, something new comes along and tops whatever the last ridiculous and exciting thing that happened. The next one is particularly odd: Pokémon is coming to the Van Gogh Museum.
Before we get into that, let’s take a brief look back at all the strange and wonderful things Pokémon has done this year. The most recent announcement was that Pokémon is crossing over with Hatsune Miku, with a series of illustrations and songs featuring the two IPs brought together. It’s been pretty cute so far, and it’s likely to get even better when those songs eventually start coming out.
Late last month, it was announced that Pokémon would be getting a live action drama series in Japan. Instead of featuring Pokémon, the creatures, it’s said to be focusing on Pokémon, the franchise, with a young woman rediscovering her love for the games and the franchise after moving away from her hometown. It sounds pretty meta, and unfortunately probably won’t be coming to the West — but you can never really know for sure.
During a Pokémon Presents earlier in August, Pokémon announced two new anime projects, both of which have started airing already, and one of which has already finished. Pokémon: Path to the Peak was a cute little series about a Pokémon TCG player working their way up to the World Championships, while Pokémon: Paldean Winds is a new story set within the world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that mimics those games a little bit.
And so we come to today’s news: Pokémon is coming to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. At this stage, we actually don’t know much about the promotion. We’ve seen a cute little CGI teaser trailer, featuring Pikachu and Eevee running through some fields, interacting with some Sunflora, and looking at a very Van Gogh-style landscape.
The Pokémon Company says that more information will be coming soon, but the basic gist of it is that there will be some kind of Pokémon promotion at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam from September 28, 2023. Why? Who knows. But it’s kind of neat, and could mean we get some promotional TCG cards in Van Gogh’s signature style. Only time will tell.
