'The Predator' cast on film's new hybridized 'supra-badass' killer, and who's the Schwarzenegger of their crew
It’s called The Predator, but as teased in the film’s latest trailer and confirmed Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con, there are two menacing ETs raising ruckus in the new sequel, the fourth in the franchise. (Too bad the title Predators was taken by the third one, in 2010.)
And one of them is unlike any predator we’ve seen before, as explained by the movie’s cast members shortly after their SDCC panel.
“One of the predators, he’s a hybridized predator, so I believe he’s 11-feet tall,” said Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele, Don’t Think Twice). “Your standard everyday garden-variety predator is 7 or 8 feet tall, and they’re crazily badass. He’s like badass, supra-badass.”
Key, who was joined by co-stars Thomas Jane, Trevante Rhodes, and Augusto Aguilera, was blown away by the performance of Brian A. Prince, who played the (supra-badass) predator.
“[He’s] a 6-foot-10 guy who does parkour,” Key marveled. “And does it well. It’s not like, ‘Oh good for him, he jumped over that slide.’ He’s a real parkour guy. And it was demanding. [He and the other predator actors] are in a latex suit and it’s 115 degrees in there.”
Directed by Shane Black, The Predator follows the events of 1987’s Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and its subsequent sequels.
Asked who’s the Schwarzenegger of their installment, all signs pointed to the supra-buff Rhodes. “He’s the Schwarzenegger, and the Carl Weathers, AND the Jesse [Ventura],” Key said.
As for who can do the best Schwarzenegger, you probably already knew that’s Key.
The Predator opens Sept. 14. Watch the trailer:
