Why did Prince George wear a suit to the England match?

Prince George delighted royal fans on Tuesday evening as he made an appearance at Wembley for the England v Germany Euros match.
Prince William's oldest son twinned with his father in a smart suit and tie as they joined David Beckham, Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding in the box at the London stadium.
But the seven-year-old's outfit left some feeling sorry for him, and arguing that he should have been allowed to wear an England shirt and even have his face painted for the big occasion.
George was pictured in his England jersey in 2019 in portraits released for his sixth birthday.
On Tuesday after school he wore a smart navy blue jacket, shirt and striped official England FA tie.

It means he probably came home from school and dressed up slightly, rather than down, as the prince has not previously been pictured wearing a tie to go to Thomas's Battersea.
He was pictured in September 2019 on his sister Charlotte's first day of school, wearing a jumper over a shirt with an open neck, and shorts.
The decision to dress George in a suit on Tuesday afternoon may have come because of where the Cambridges were sitting, in the royal box at Wembley.
On previous football outings, George and his family have been seated in the stands and so he has been able to dress casually.

But knowing there would be cameras on them, and with William attending in his capacity as president of the Football Association (FA), there was a greater formality to the occasion.
President of the FA is a role young George could have himself one day.
Despite their smart attire, matched by others in the box like Beckham, there is not a formal dress code at Wembley when it comes to suits.
The Club Wembley dress code explains: "There is no strict dress code within Club Wembley, the One Twenty Club and the Bobby Moore Club, with the exception of replica club colours."
It adds: "To help make your event day a safe and enjoyable occasion for all we would like to remind you and your guests that replica club colours are not permitted for club matches. The only exception to this is for some Sky Bet Play-Off Finals, where segregation is in place and you have a team specific ticket."

Anyone sitting there cannot wear their club colours in any form, including scarves, hats, flags or face paint.
But that doesn't apply to the national team, which is why others sitting near them, like Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn, were able to wear their jerseys.
Usually, anyone attending a Wembley event in a private box would get access to the stadium via a VIP entrance, and drinks and food during the game.
They would also be offered refreshments after the match or show they attended.
George did not appear very focused during the national anthem, looking up at the sky, and his parents were later pictured leaning in to talk to their son on a number of occasions.
However, he looked thrilled at the end of the match when England secured their place in the quarter finals on Saturday.
It's thought to be the first time Kate has been to see England's men's team play in person too.
