Prince Harry Majorly Broke Protocol During His Latest Public Outing
Prince Harry broke protocol during his latest public outing when he hugged an emotional charity worker.
Earlier this week, the Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan Markle, helped prepare meals at Homeboy Industries, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization that employs former gang members, former criminals and people looking to rebuild their lives.
During the visit, Prince Harry chatted with the staff, including one woman whose son just lost his father. When she broke down in tears, the duke abandoned coronavirus protocol and comforted the woman with a warm embrace.
Father Greg Boyle (the founder of Homeboy Industries) recalled the interaction during an interview with Us Magazine. “His funeral is next week, so she just starts to cry and forget social distancing,” he said. “Harry just held her. It was very sweet, very sweet. But it was kind of raw for her.”
The news might surprise some royal aficionados, since members of the royal family aren’t supposed to hug members of the public during official outings. However, after stepping down as a senior royal, Prince Harry doesn’t have to follow the rules.
Boyle also confirmed it was a normal reaction, adding, “Harry was immediate. He just threw her arms around her and held her for a long time. It was very, very touching.”
Prince Harry’s visit was in honor of L.A.’s #FeedHope initiative. Together, he and Markle helped the workers bake bread and package meals for families in need.
Thank you, Prince Harry, for lending a shoulder during these tough times.
