Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Honeymoon
If you think you know where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are spending their honeymoon, you probably have no idea where the royals headed for their much-deserved getaway.
Just a few weeks before their May 19 nuptials, Kensington Palace spokesman Jason Knauf confirmed that Harry and Meghan would take a vacation following their wedding, after a short delay to attend a Buckingham Palace garden party in honor of Prince Charles's birthday.
"The couple will be going on honeymoon, but not straightaway," he said according to People. "They will have their first engagement as a married couple in the week after the wedding."
But now that the engagement is over, many are wondering where the newly named Duke and Duchess of Sussex are heading for their romantic trip.
According to royal reporter, Omid Scobie if you've heard a rumor that Harry and Meghan are honeymooning in a certain destination, it's likely they've already changed their plans.
"The honeymoon destination has changed a few times since they started planning," Scobie told ELLE.com. "If a location leaks prior to travel, it compromises their safety on the trip, and they’ll be advised by their protection team to change plans. William and Kate’s protection officers ended up doing recon on two destinations before they settled on the Seychelles for their 2011 honeymoon. I heard that just over a month before the wedding, Harry and Meghan hadn’t even booked a destination, so these plans have come together rather quickly!"
He also shared that his sources say Meghan is keen on a beach holiday, but don't expect Kensington Palace to announce their full itinerary.
“Kensington Palace have said that the honeymoon is very much a private trip and they won’t be releasing details to the media. The couple shared so much during the wedding and now is the time for them to enjoy some privacy. They deserve it,” Scobie said.
It's likely the couple is traveling now, or in the days to come. Their last announced public event was the garden party on May 22, and while it's likely we'll see them up on the royal balcony for the Trooping the Colour parade on June 9, their schedules are clear until then, so let the speculation begin!
Below, a few rumors about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's honeymoon, likely meaning we can cross these spots off the list of potential destinations.
Namibia
In April, Travel + Leisure reported that Prince Harry and Meghan would spend their honeymoon in Namibia. "A source has confirmed to Travel + Leisure that Harry and Meghan have indeed chosen Namibia as the country where they will spend their first vacation together as husband and wife," reads the report by Stacey Leasca. The article also suggested that the pair might be staying at Natural Selection's Hoanib Valley Camp.
Alberta, Canada
Over Memorial Day weekend, TMZ reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are heading to Canada for their honeymoon, specifically Alberta, and they plan to stay at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for their visit. The gossip publication also called out the resort's royal history: George VI and the Queen Mother stayed there in the '30s, and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited in June of 2005.
But despite TMZ's connection to Meghan's father, Thomas Markle Sr., Emily Andrews, royal reporter for The Sun isn't buying it.
"Harry & Meghan on honeymoon in Canada? Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge says TMZ. Nope. Try again. The only bit that’s right is that they are currently on honeymoon..." reads her tweet from May 28.
Angela Moore, regional director of public relations for Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, also confirmed to the StarMetro that the newlywed royals are not booked for a stay, and declined to comment further.
