Take a Look Back at Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's Relationship
Back in 2018, Queen Elizabeth's family had a banner year, with all eyes on two sets of newlyweds: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.
But more recently, the attention shifted to Eugenie's sister Princess Beatrice, who just last summer had a royal wedding of her own. After postponing her nuptials because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, she and her fiancé Edoardo "Edo" Mapelli Mozzi said "I do" in a private ceremony in Windsor on July 17, 2020. In May 2021, the couple announced they would be having their first child together. And, on September 18, 2021, the couple welcomed a baby girl into their family.
Since September 2019, when Prince Andrew confirmed that his daughter was engaged to Edo, the businessman slowly entered the royals' orbit in an official capacity, making his debut at the family's Christmas Day walk to church and more.
But that didn't happen overnight—Beatrice has been reportedly dating Edo for some time. Here's everything we know about their relationship.
They met years ago.
While British tabloid the Sun claims the pair only met in September of 2018, People reports the couple has known each other for a while now.
Mozzi's step-father Christopher Shale, who passed away suddenly at the Glastonbury music festival in 2011, was close friends with Beatrice's parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. In fact, Beatrice attended Shale's funeral alongside her parents almost a decade ago.
Perhaps Beatrice and Edo were reacquainted in 2018. According to the Sun's source, “Beatrice and Edo have the same circle of friends and were introduced through a mutual chum ... They hit it off instantly and have a real laugh together. They’ve been on holiday together and Beatrice introduced him to Fergie and her dad. Things are moving very quickly and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they got engaged within a short period of time."
They were photographed in public together many times while they were dating.
Beatrice and Edo had been dating for months before they started to be photographed in public together. Pictures first surfaced in the Daily Mail of the couple walking on the beach together in Kenya in early January 2019.
In March, the couple stepped out together at the 2019 Portrait Gala, which is held at the National Portrait Gallery.
Later that month, on St. Patrick's Day, they were spotted holding hands in New York City. In July, photographers captured them walking in to the exclusive Annabel's Member's Club in London. Per Hello, Beatrice was wearing a bracelet with Edo's initial on it. And in late August, the Princess and the businessman were photographed musician Ellie Goulding's wedding alongside Princess Eugenie and Sarah Ferguson.
Things started to get serious during the summer of 2019.
In June of 2019, Edo accompanied Beatrice at an event at St. James's Palace. Together, they spoke with guests during an event hosted by Beatrice's father Prince Andrew.
Earlier in the season, Edo joined Beatrice and her mother, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, at the wedding of Ella Windsor to Thomas Kingston.
Edo proposed to Beatrice during a trip to Italy in September of 2019.
"We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married," the happy couple said in an official announcement. "We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness."

He accompanied Beatrice on the royals' Christmas Day walk to church at Sandringham for the first time in December 2019.
Only members of the royal family are allowed to join in their Christmas tradition: a (very public) morning stroll to services at the chapel on Sandringham Estate. But now that Edo is officially engaged to Princess Beatrice, he was permitted to make his first-ever appearance at the annual event.

"The Queen has kindly given permission for the ceremony to take place at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace. The ceremony will be followed by a private reception, given by The Queen, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace."
Unfortunately, her wedding had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. “Princess Beatrice’s wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, planned for 29 May, has been postponed due to the global coronavirus pandemic,” Sarah Ferguson said.
