Princess Charlotte wears horseshoe brooch to honor the queen at funeral
Princess Charlotte is joining in efforts to pay tribute to her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, by wearing a brooch in the monarch's honor.
The seven-year-old daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton appeared at the queen's funeral on Monday looking like her mother's mini-me in a long fit-and-flare black coat and a hat with a bow. Charlotte's standout accessory, however, was the horseshoe brooch that sparkled against her mourning attire.
The piece pinned to the front of her coat, which is silver and decorated with diamonds, is the first significant piece of jewelry worn by the young royal. It appears to be a subtle nod to the queen's love of horses.
Charlotte is said to have adopted a similar fascination for the animals after paralympian Natasha Baker recalled a conversation with the Princess of Wales in 2016 where it was mentioned that Charlotte had been enjoying horseback riding.
The queen's youngest granddaughter, Lady Louise Windsor, also honored the queen's equestrian passion during a vigil on Saturday, wearing a necklace with a horse-shaped charm.
Middleton and Meghan Markle had also paid homage to the queen through their choices of jewelry for Monday's funeral, wearing diamonds and pearls gifted to them by the late monarch.
Charlotte stood by the side of her older brother Prince George, 9, as they walked behind their great grandmother's coffin. Their youngest sibling Prince Louis remained at home.
