Princess Charlotte Is Taking After Mom Kate Middleton With a Broad Interest In This Type of Hobby
Princess Charlotte has added yet another sport to her wide array of athletic interests!
On Thursday, Kate Middleton and Prince William visited Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre in Marlow, Buckinghamshire for an event with youth and professional athletes supporting mental fitness. Champion netball player Ama Agbeze was in attendance, and she told People, “Kate has played netball before, she knows the sport! She said she had been teaching her daughter how to shoot in netball, but younger people have the net lower, so it’s actually very different — she’s still got it!”

The event was sponsored by SportsAid, which is a charity the Princess of Wales has been involved with since 2013. Tim Lawler, chief executive of the organization, spoke about Charlotte’s passion for athletic activities of all kinds, sharing “Charlotte’s interests certainly from a swimming perspective came out in the Birmingham trip that [she, Kate, and William] joined us at, and there’s a gymnastics interest, there which is a brilliant grounding sport and dance and things like that.”
Charlotte has also taken ballet lessons, and her father shared she’s quite the soccer player while chatting with England’s women’s soccer team in 2022. Additionally, the young princess accompanied her parents and eldest brother, Prince George, at Wimbledon this year. Both she and George were enthralled by the tennis matches and were seen reacting to the action with animated expressions and enthusiastic cheers.

After Kate visited the Maidenhead Rugby Club in June 2023, Nigel Gillingham, President of the Rugby Football Union, complimented the future queen’s sports skills. “She regularly plays rugby in the back garden with the children — she plays all sports with them,” he said. Gillingham added, “Apparently Charlotte is very much in her mold — very competitive as well.”
In fact, Kate recently revealed Charlotte plays rugby and football after school. During a September 2023 appearance on royal family member Mike Tindall’s podcast The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, the princess shared, “Charlotte’s playing both the sports now, and it’s really good to see youngsters, particularly girls, playing these types of sports now.” There’s been speculation about the young princess’ potential future as a soccer star — only time will tell if she takes after Zara Tindall as a professional athlete!
