*This* Is How to Properly Pronounce the Royal Baby's Name
Prince William and Kate Middleton finally announced the name of their third child: Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge. But one question still remains: How on earth do you pronounce his first name?
Technically, there are two pronunciations of “Louis.” Although the Americanized version is pronounced LOO-iss, the new baby’s name takes the French form, which is LOO-ee with a silent S. Just let that sink in.
This should come as no surprise to royal aficionados, considering there have been multiple French kings with the same name, and they all went by “Louie” instead of “Lewis.” You’re probably familiar with King Louis XVI, who famously married Marie Antoinette, and Louis XIV, who built the Palace of Versailles (casual).
Although Louis isn’t a traditional British name, Prince Philip had an uncle named Louis, so yeah, we can’t believe we missed this.
Welcome, Prince Lou-ee.
