Queen Camilla Attends London Shakespeare Event While King Charles Stays at Sandringham
King Charles traveled into and out of London this week as he is receiving treatment for cancer in the capital and recuperating at his Sandringham Estate. And Queen Camilla was once again holding down the fort as far as public appearances go as she stepped out in London to celebrate Shakespeare.
The Queen was joined by several well-known guests as she was the guest of honor at a “Celebration of Shakespeare” event at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday evening. Dressed in a green gown accessorized with glittering earrings, Camilla cheerily chatted with guests and posed for a photograph with some of Britain’s most acclaimed actresses. Dame Judi Dench read a Shakespearean sonnet and Dame Joanna Lumley, Dame Vanessa Redgrave, and Dame Twiggy Lawson were also in attendance.
Queen Camilla’s friend Gyles Brandreth hosted the event, which was part of celebrations surrounding the 400th anniversary of the first Shakespeare folio. Buckingham Palace highlighted how the First Folio, published in 1623, contains 36 plays, 18 of which would have been lost without its publication.
Camilla is continuing with a program of engagements while her husband postpones his public duties due to his cancer treatment. Buckingham Palace announced last week that the King he had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer and would be stepping back from duties. Simultaneously, Kate Middleton is also unable to perform public duties as she recovers from major abdominal surgery and Prince William has modified his timetable to care for her and their children.
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have both said that they will not give a running commentary on the health of members of the royal family.
