Queer-focused art exhibit opens at Spiva
JOPLIN, Mo. — A new exhibit celebrating creativity of the LGBTQ+ community is on display in Joplin.
Spiva Center for the Arts along with JOMO EQ held an open reception Thursday evening (9/5) for their newest gallery called, “Who Am I: A Queer Perspective.”
The exhibit offers a formal space where queer-focused art is welcomed, and features works from local and national artists.
This is the second year Spiva has hosted the gallery.
The exhibit officially kicks off Friday (9/6), which coincides with the start of JOMO Pridefest.
“I think people will come, not only to experience art but just be educated by the queer community, and also just experience new ways of looking at things. I think that as long as you love art, you’ll love this show,” said Cecil Cornish with JOMO EQ.
The exhibit runs through September 28. JOMO Pridefest begins Friday and runs through Sunday (9/8).
