The Reason Prince Louis Wore Shorts on the Royal Christmas Walk (in the Middle of Winter)
The royal family stepped out for their annual walk in Sandringham on Christmas Day, and Kate Middleton and Prince William were joined by all three of their kids: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and the living legend known as Prince Louis.
This marked Prince Louis's first time participating in the Christmas Eve walk, and he fully stole the show when it came to fashion. Mostly because he was wearing a pair of knee-high socks and shorts in the middle of winter while the rest of the royals were bundled up.
So...why the shorts? Turns out this is something of a royal tradition for the family. Like, here's Prince George rocking shorts on Christmas a few years ago:
Back in 2018, etiquette expert William Hanson gave some insight into the whole shorts thing to Harper's Bazaar, saying "It's a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts. Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England. Although times are (slowly) changing, a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered quite middle class – quite suburban. And no self-respecting aristo or royal would want to be considered suburban. Even the Duchess of Cambridge."
Hanson went on to explain that "The modern habit of upper class families choosing to dress their boys in shorts will deliberately hark back to a bygone age/ The British upper set are always keen to hold on to tradition, and this one also silently marks them out from 'the rest.'"
Ooookay! Stay warm, Louis!
