How to Recreate These Zigzag Braided Curls
On this week’s episode of The Braid Up, we’re introducing you to your new go-to braid. This style is made up of several zigzag braids, the cool cousin to your basic cornrow braids. It’s cute, it’s fun, and you’re going to be obsessed with it. Our Braid Up hair extraordinaire, Stasha Harris, shows us exactly how to recreate it, below.
Ready to try out this look? Here’s everything you need to know:
1. Stock up on the holy-grail product: edge control. You’re going to need a lot of it. It’s the best way to keep your edges laid and your parts looking sleek. Try Shine ’n Jam Magic Fingers Gel or Hicks Total Transformations Edges Styling Gel to keep your baby hairs in place.
2. Get long hair extensions to give your ends more length and volume. You can either sew on the extensions or secure them at the end of each braid with a rubber band, like Stasha does-up to you.
3. Your parts are everything when it comes to braiding, especially for this look. The key to making sure your parts are sharp? A rat-tail comb. The fine teeth make it easy to part sections cleanly.
4. Don’t forget to keep your hair conditioned. Just because your hair is in a protective style doesn’t mean you shouldn’t condition it. Use a leave-in conditioner mist (I’m into the Cantu Shea Butter Hydrating Leave-In Conditioning Mist) to keep your hair from drying out while it’s braided up.
