Reese’s Just Launched a Brand-New Peanut Butter Cup That Tastes Shockingly Better than the Original
Over the past few months, the team at Reese’s has been busy launching a delightful wave of new chocolate peanut butter cup-inspired boxed mixes and frozen desserts. They even went so far as to quadruple down on the classic combo with a limited-edition Reese’s that’s, yes, four times the size of the original.
While many of us are closing out the summer with an OOO message, Reese’s is working overtime to drop yet another new cup that may just break the internet: Reese’s Chocolate Lava Big Cup.
What You Should Know About Reese’s Chocolate Lava Big Cup
As the name suggests, the new Reese’s Chocolate Lava Big Cup is a chocolatey riff on the OG big cup. Similar to the Caramel Big Cup, which launched last November, this innovation contains a layer of chocolate “lava” (think: Hershey’s syrup) sandwiched between the peanut butter center and the bottom of the milk chocolate cup.
You can find the Chocolate Lava Big Cups starting in August at retailers nationwide in both standard (one cup) and king size (two cups).

My Honest Review of Reese’s Chocolate Lava Big Cup
The standard Reese’s Big Cup is my second favorite shape in the peanut butter cup universe (just behind the eggs, of course). For a peanut butter stan like myself, it is the exact right balance of peanut butter to chocolate — mostly a mouthful of the former, with just enough of the latter to sweeten the center.
I’m skeptical anytime the company fudges with that mix, particularly when it detracts from the peanut butter of it all. So I didn’t have high hopes for this new cup (especially after another coworker’s less-than-five-star review), and was pleasantly surprised to discover I was wrong to underestimate the R&D team at Reese’s.
The new Chocolate Lava version tastes shockingly similar to the standard big cup, followed up with a thimble-size chaser of Hershey’s syrup. True to the OG, I mostly get that sweet peanut butter filling with a modest amount of milk chocolate and a hint of chocolate syrup. In fact, if you closed your eyes, you might not even sense the syrup is there — until the finish.
The chocolatey syrup flavor lingers a little at the end, which another coworker felt made it unnecessarily sweet and messy (warm temps + liquid chocolate = sticky fingers). Try tossing them in the fridge or freezer, or make sure to have hand wipes nearby or access to a running sink.
Even still, she agreed these would be a “great call” chopped up as a topping for an ice cream sundae or no-bake chocolate-peanut butter dream bars.
