Relax in Your Own Private Lagoon at This Gorgeous Retreat in Iceland
This spring, a brand new destination is opening up that perfectly encapsulates all the best reasons to visit Iceland in 2018.
The Retreat at Blue Lagoon, a luxurious hotel that includes an underground, natural spa and mineral-rich lagoon, is opening on April 1. And while this hotel may seem too good to be true, it’s definitely not an April Fools’ joke.
The hotel itself is located atop 800-year-old, moss-covered lava flow. (Many parts of Iceland are sitting on top or close to cooled lava rock, including the Reykjavik airport.)
The retreat is “designed to bring you closer to nature and the wonders of geothermal seawater,” according to its operators.
Along with its geothermal pools and spas, the retreat also has 62 suites, many of which are encircled by the waters of the lagoon.
There are five types of suites, including Moss Junior (with views of the moss-covered landscape), Lagoon View, Lava View, the Moss Suite, and the Lagoon Suite — which has the lagoon right outside the door.
And while guests are not relaxing in the spa or enjoying the beautiful views from their rooms, the retreat also offers local Icelandic cuisine at one of two on-site restaurants.
