The Rich and Luxurious Brownie Recipe the Kardashians Have Been Eating Since Childhood

It’s an understatement to say that the Kardashians have been all over the news lately. Whether it's your FYP or the NYT, there seems to be a new story about them almost every day. The family has gained fame for their makeup, marriages and — of course — their momager, Kris Jenner.

While her style and meme-worthy responses and comebacks to the antics of her children are what keep us all consistently talking, most recently, her "famous" brownie recipe is what's caught (and kept) our attention.

Published on daughter Kourtney Kardashian's lifestyle site, Poosh, the family recipe has sent the internet into a frenzy. But would they actually be as dramatic, rich and decadent as the family themselves? I decided to make them to find out.

Ingredients for Kris Jenner’s Famous Brownies

The brownie recipe is pretty straightforward as far as ingredients go, but I was surprised to see that it used four eggs. The other ingredients, however, include chopped walnuts, baking powder, salt, flour, sugar, vanilla, chocolate chips and unsweetened chocolate. You'll need cooking spray and a brownie pan as well.

How to Make Kris Jenner’s Famous Brownies

After preheating the oven to 325°F, grease your 8x8 brownie pan with cooking spray. Microwave your butter and unsweetened chocolate. Set to the side. In a food processor, add the eggs and vanilla, before slowly adding sugar, flour, salt, baking powder. Next, add the melted chocolate and butter mixture slowly through the tube until the whole thing was smooth. It was quite thick and I began to pulse the batter so I wouldn't run the motor down on my food processor.

I added a cup of toasted, chopped walnuts, and a 12-ounce package of chocolate chips (the recipe calls for mini chips, but I only had full size on hand, and it worked out great). I baked for about 25 minutes until the middle wasn’t jiggly, and the sides of the brownies were pulling away from the pan. Kris says you can dust the top with confectioners' sugar, but I chose to skip this step as there was already enough sugar going on.

What I Thought of Kris Jenner‘s Famous Brownies

I consider myself a pretty serious judge of brownies. Never have I ever made brownies from a box (no judgment if that’s your thing), but instead rely on my out-of-print, spiral-bound copy of Kathleen‘s Bake Shop Cookbook from 1990. It’s the first recipe in the book and the last brownie recipe you’ll ever need. Or so I thought because Kris Jenner is giving Kathleen King a serious run for her money.

I was excited to try Kris Jenner’s brownies, because who wouldn’t want to get a literal taste of the Kardashian lifestyle? Poosh says that Kris has baked these brownies for her family for years and even Kourtney makes them with her kids now (gluten and dairy-free, of course).

Making them was a cinch, as everything pretty much gets thrown into the food processor. These came out rich and chocolatey, studded with the chopped walnuts, which I toasted for added oomph.

I absolutely loved how the chocolate chips and the walnuts gave a textural pop to all of the silky, rich chocolate. I had to cut these babies into super small squares due to their richness, but I guarantee I'll be making some neighbors very happy in the future.

Since there are so many eggs (four) and so much sugar (2 cups) in this recipe, both flavors were pretty prominent, but not in a bad way. The brownies were dense with a bit of a sugary crunch and they were definitely giving flourless chocolate cake vibes. I’m not going to lie and tell you I didn’t lick the bowl before putting these in the oven because I totally did. They were that good.

Tips for Making Kris Jenner‘s Famous Brownies

1. Grab a brownie pan. The type of pan was not specified in this recipe. It just says to use a "prepared baking pan" and clicking on the link brought me to a dead page, so I had no idea what kind of a pan Kris Jenner wanted me to use. Other recipes online making Kris' recipe use a 9x13 pan, but I’ve always made brownies in an 8x8, so that’s what I grabbed.

2. Use more butter. I was really surprised to see only 2 tablespoons of butter in this recipe. I thought that was a misprint, and after doing some research, I figured out that it might be since the recipe is listed on other websites and calls for two sticks — not tablespoons. Alas, I used the 2 tablespoons and they came out great, but I did have to bake for way longer as they were soupy in the middle after 25 minutes.

3. Watch the timer. Jenner’s recipe calls for baking for 20 to 25 minutes, but I found that mine took a little bit longer. This could be due to the mysterious butter issue or the fact that I use an 8x8 pan instead of a 9x13. In any case, I watched my brownies carefully after the 25-minute mark since I wanted to catch them at that sweet spot of just baked enough but not dried out at all.

4. Don't be afraid to substitute ingredientsThe recipe calls for unsalted butter, but if you open your fridge and find that you only have salted butter like I did, simply omit the salt in the recipe in order to avoid a trip to the grocery store. Others online report that this recipe works well with a gluten-free flour blend too.
