RNC chair Ronna McDaniel condemns uncle Mitt Romney's anti-Trump op-ed

The new year is off to a seemingly awkward start for Mitt Romney and family after his niece, Ronna Romney McDaniel, took to Twitter to bash the incoming GOP senator for his criticism of President Donald Trump.

McDaniel, who is the Republican National Committee chairwoman, is making her loyalty to the president clear following Mitt Romney’s critical op-ed, which was published in the Washington Post on Tuesday. In it, he says “that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office.”

In a tweet, McDaniel calls her uncle “an incoming Republican freshman senator,” and says that his attack on the president “is disappointing and unproductive.”

Those who took notice, however, seem to find her response even more disappointing than Romney’s disapproval of Trump.

Besides pointing out Romney’s political savvy from his work as a former governor and 2012 presidential nominee, critics of McDaniel’s also commented on her “blind obedience” to Trump, which started when she stopped using her maiden name upon the president’s request.

Still, others supported McDaniel’s public condemnation of her uncle, saying that Romney is a “political opportunist.”

But some people think the awkward exchange could have been saved for a private family conversation.
