Run, walk, roll: Mount Agamenticus Trail Challenge returns for its 8th year
YORK, Maine — The York Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the Friends of Mount A, is set to host the 8th annual Mount Agamenticus 5K and 1-Mile Trail Challenge.
The event, aimed at promoting health and wellness within the community, will take place on Sept. 21. Participants can choose between a 5K trail challenge and a 1-mile trail challenge, both of which can be run or walked.
The 1-mile course follows the Big A Universal Access trail, accommodating all fitness levels and abilities. For those seeking a greater challenge, the 5K course includes steeper inclines and traverses the Ring Trail before finishing at the summit of Mount Agamenticus.
The event welcomes individuals of all ages and health levels to enjoy the outdoors and achieve personal fitness goals. Participants can run, walk, roll, or stroll, with the race timed by the York Track & Field Program using traditional stop-watch methods.
The Big A Trail, named after the former ski area at Mount Agamenticus, is designed to provide access for everyone, including people with mobility disabilities, seniors, trail runners, and families with young children and strollers. The trail, built with universal design principles, guides visitors along the mountaintop and into the summit shrubland, offering resting and viewing spots along the way.
Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, and all participants will be eligible for raffle prizes. Race amenities include water and snacks, and participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the summit after the award ceremony.
Please note that there will be no day-of registration. The 5K race starts at 9 a.m., followed by the 1-mile race at 9:20 a.m.
Volunteers are needed for this event. For more information about the Mount A Trail Challenge, to view course maps, register for the races, or volunteer, visit Mount A Trail Challenge or call 207-363-1040.
