Ryan Gosling Reportedly Blamed 'Show Business' For Him And Rachel McAdams Breaking Up
Ryan Gosling, 42, and Rachel McAdams, 44, dated between 2005 and 2007 – and they had quite an interesting relationship from the very beginning. The pair famously starred in The Notebook in 2004, and perhaps just as famously didn’t get off to the best start. If you’ll recall, there have been many reports about the two not having the best relationship on set – at one point Gosling even tried to get his leading lady fired because he couldn’t stand working with her. Wow!
However, life seemingly imitated art and the two ended up having great chemistry off set as well as on set and even dated for two years. We’ll never forget what the Barbie actor said about his co-star when they won the MTV Best Kiss award for their iconic on-screen kiss in the rain. He said: “You have to be born with a magic mouth. Some have said about Rachel that she’s kind of like what Jimi Hendrix was to the guitar.” So why did they break up after just two years?
Why Did Ryan Gosling And Rachel McAdams Break Up?
If we are to believe the reports, the Crazy, Stupid, Love actor and the About Time actress ended their relationship after two years because of many factors, including their super-busy careers and insane levels of fame.
"Show business is the bad guy," Gosling previously told The Times about their relationship coming to an end. "When both people are in show business, it’s too much show business. It takes all of the light, so nothing else can grow."
The Blade Runner star also told GQ that Notebook fans were furious at him and the Mean Girls star for ending their relationship, and said he even had to console fans on several occasions. He recalled: "Women are mad at me. A girl came up to me on the street, and she almost smacked me. Like, 'How could you? How could you let a girl like that go?' I feel like I want to give people hugs. They seem so sad. Rachel and I should be the ones getting hugs! Instead, we’re consoling everybody else."
What Has Ryan Gosling Said About Rachel McAdams?
Even though their relationship ended, Gosling still spoke very fondly of his girlfriend of two years, telling GQ that she was "one of the great loves" of his life. "God bless The Notebook. It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life." He went on to talk about how their love story differed from their characters Noah and Allie, adding: "But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that. The only thing I remember is we both went down swingin' and we called it a draw."
Gosling and McAdams have moved on since ending their relationship. Gosling has been with his The Place Beyond The Pines co-star Eva Mendes since 2011 and they have two children together. McAdams started dating We Are Marshall and Dear John screenwriter Jamie Linden in 2016, and they also have two children together.
