Sam's Club's Plus Member Perk Is Getting a Big Change, and Customers Aren't Happy

Sam's Club's Plus members, brace for a big change when it comes to a key perk.

Starting on Aug. 19, Plus members will no longer receive free shipping for all orders Sam's Club noted on its website. Customers will instead need to spend at least $50 before taxes to qualify for free or same-day shipping. If they spend less than $50, they will pay a flat shipping rate of $8.

For those unfamiliar with the perk, same-day shipping is offered to members who live within 15 miles of a Sam's Club store. A $8 fee was previously charged for all same-day deliveries.

Regular Sam's Club members, meanwhile, can enjoy free pickup when they spend more than $50. They were previously charged a $4 flat rate for all orders—which will still apply to orders under $50.

On X, some Sam's Club shoppers lamented the upcoming changes to shipping perks. One wrote, "Getting rid of free shipping is a joke right! How terrible! Time to downgrade my membership or just quit the club."

Another salty Plus member shared, "When we became Plus members it was sold to us on 'Free shipping,' so we said...ok, let's join. This move is complete BS. Without this perk, why should we stay as Plus??? We see no benefits for the cost. And I'll add..., 'after August, 18th' when you start to charge..."

Yet another disgruntled Sam's Club customer declared on X, "With @SamsClub removing free shipping (without 50 dollars spent), the Plus membership needs to be no more for me the only reason I stayed, it is now time to move on when my subscription is up, hope this backfires on them honestly not happy. I'm out."
