A second Potbelly sandwich shop location opens in Wilmington, N.C. at 6818 Parker Farm Drive on July 19, 2024.

The Potbelly sandwich shop chain is adding a second Wilmington location. The restaurant opens Friday in the Mayfaire shopping center near Wrightsville Beach. It joins the existing Wilmington shop which opened four years ago at 2515 S 17th St. near New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Here’s what to expect as the new one opens.

The new restaurant

The new Potbelly is at 6818 Parker Farm Drive in the former SunTrust Bank site. Brent and Michele Brouse own both local restaurants and have incorporated community touches into the shop’s look, including posters from Wilmington made movies and custom tables that feature landmarks like the Battleship North Carolina. The new restaurant will also have a drive-thru and offer delivery to nearby areas of Wrightsville Beach and Landfall.

Brent Brouse said this Wilmington location is also now the largest Potbelly restaurant. And, instead of removing the bank vault, they put the walk-in cooler in it.

What’s planned for the opening?

Regular hours for the new location will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. On Friday, the first 100 people there will receive a coupon for a free sandwich that can be used during a future visit. The breakfast menu includes classic sandwiches (like bacon, egg and cheddar) and coffee. Later in the day, the menu includes signature toasted Potbelly sandwiches, mac and cheese, soups, salads, chips, cookies, shakes and drinks.

More about Potbelly

Potbelly first opened in Chicago in 1977. There are now 425 shops across the country. Many of them are corporate owned, but there’s a growing contingent of franchised restaurants which now includes about 80 locations. The Brouses said they hope to open more Potbelly shops in the Carolinas in the future.

This location took about five years to open, and while Brouse said he's looking for a possible new location, he hasn't found the right spot yet.
