Scarlett Johansson And Colin Jost Are Always Staring ~Deeply~ Into Each Other's Eyes
Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost’s love story started the way many a celebrity romance has…at a Saturday Night Live cast party.
ScarJost first met in 2006, when Scarlett guest-hosted the show during Colin’s first year as an SNL writer. But it wasn’t until March 2017, when Scarlett guest-hosted the late-night show for the fifth time, that sparks flew between the Marriage Story actress and the current “Weekend Update” co-anchor.
Colin’s SNL castmate Kate McKinnon played matchmaker and set the pair up a few weeks after Scarlett filed for divorce from her ex-husband, journalist Romain Dauriac (with whom she has a 5-year-old daughter), and Colin split from actress Rashida Jones, according to Life & Style. By May, things were already looking pretty official when the couple was spotted making out at the aforementioned afterparty (I officially dub those parties breeding grounds for A-list love affairs).
Ever since Colin popped the question in May 2019, the PDA has just kept on coming. Take the night Scarlett hosted SNL for the sixth time (I mean, just hire her, Lorne Michaels!) and she credited the show for her relationship. “This place means so much to me. I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here,” she said before wrapping her arms around Colin and planting one on him.
And sure, PDA’s usually a pretty good indication things are going well for a couple, but if you’ve even offhandedly kept up with the rise and fall of celebrity love lives, you'll know all public displays of affection are not created equal. In some cases, they’re signs of true and everlasting love and in others, they point to a sweet, but short-lived romance that now exist only on the pages of outdated magazines.
Finding out which camp ScarJost falls into would typically be a waiting game, but thankfully Terri Orbuch, PhD, author of 5 Simple Steps to Take Your Marriage From Good to Great and professor at Oakland University in Michigan, stepped in and analyzed their body language throughout these past three years.
Does love made on SNL last? Read on to find out.
1) Scarlett wants forever with Colin.
I'll be the first to say Colin and Scarlett are playing it up for the cameras here, but Orbuch says that doesn't mean there aren't genuine feelings coming through. The prominent hints are all in Scarlett's body language. First up, the angle of her body. It's completely facing and pressed up against Colin's arm meaning she's actually thinking about him in this moment despite all the cameras and fans surrounding them. Plus, her right hand is gripping tight,Orbuch says, which is a sign she's in this relationship for the long haul.
2) The proof's in their kiss.
Another red carpet photo, another argument from Orbuch assuring these two are the real deal.
This isn't just any old kiss, Colin and Scarlett's bodies are facing toward each other's instead of to the row of photographers positioned in front of them. This move, in combination with their closed eyes, and Scarlett's hand on Colin's jacket, means they're focused on each other and only each other. Orbuch has no reason to think things won't stay that way for a very long time.
3) They don't want to be by anyone else's side.
Based on the closeness of their bodies (yes, again), Colin's hand pulling Scarlett in closer (as if that were even possible), and his kiss on her cheek, Orbuch can tell these two are completely bonded (figuratively and literally). Colin and Scarlett have no hesitations about being vulnerable with each other. When they need to lean on each other, they do so confidently because they know the other will be there no matter what.
4) Being together's easy for them.
Ideally, Scarlett and Colin would be walking in step with each other because that would mean they have similar goals for the future, but Orbuch's still going to give them her seal of approval since she's picking up on other positive cues.
The first to catch her eye? Their stances. When they're not posing for photos, Scarlett still hooks her hand onto Colin's arm—she genuinely wants to stay connected to him. Next, Orbuch picks up on the fact that Colin's walking ahead of Scarlett. It means he looks out for her when she needs him to. Don't get it twisted, though, this doesn't necessarily mean he takes the lead in the relationship. Orbuch knows they're equals since their body language is so often harmonious, but Colin will step up when he needs to.
5) Colin's not going anywhere any time soon.
Colin's looking at Scarlett like no one else exists on the planet. Admittedly, he's pulling her in for a kiss which requires some focus, but this intense look is enough to convince Orbuch Colin is mesmerized by Scarlett. Plus, that hand on her neck is a surefire sign of his attachment to her.
6) They're proud to be together.
In yet another snap of ScarJost gazing lovingly into each other's eyes, it's clear to Orbuch they count themselves lucky to have found each other. Scarlett's hands (both!) on Colin's arm, his palm on his jacket, and those "genuine big smiles" are signs they're excited to take on life together, says Orbuch.
