The "Scary" Farmhouse From 'Fixer Upper' Season 1 Just Hit the Market
One of the very first homes ever featured on Fixer Upper just hit the market! Listed by AG Real Estate & Associates, the 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom farmhouse in Crawford, TX, was the subject of season 1's episode, titled "Professor and Family Crave Country Climate." Devan and Hannah Jonklaas took a chance on the damaged home, buying it for $197,000 and investing $48,000 in renovations. With the help of Chip and Joanna Gaines, the house went from "scary to sensational."
But Chip's estimated resale value of $305,000 is $170,000 short of the asking price - perhaps because of the subsequent success of the HGTV show and its impact on Waco-area real estate.
"We had full intention of this being our forever home," the homeowners told listing agent Blair Gulley, who passed along to statement to CountryLiving.com, "but we felt a call to live among students at Baylor University where Devan has taken a position to be a Faculty in Residence to offer guidance and community in their first pivotal years of attending college." Take a look inside:
You might recall the honeybee hive found in the exterior wall...
...or the sliding barn door Joanna installed in the living room, an element that would become one of her signature designs.
Though they kept the original wood beams exposed, Joanna painted the built-ins on either side of the fireplace to help brighten up the space.
The spare room off the living area houses musical instruments.
Rather than replace the cabinets, Joanna gave them a fresh coat of paint and added new countertops.
Oh, and of course, she created an open floor plan between the kitchen and dining room.
Sigh, who wouldn't want a Joanna Gaines-designed kitchen?
There's no shortage of counter space in the bathroom!
Large windows let ample light into the master bedroom, and a door leads to a private balcony.
A double vanity is the dream, are we right?
Even the kids' rooms are cute!
The balcony off the master overlooks the 3.65-acre lot.
Old oak trees surround the home, providing plenty of shade.
Now's your chance to own a Joanna Gaines design!
