Is Scream 7 confirmed?

Indeed! A report on Aug. 2, 2023, confirmed that not only is Scream 7 confirmed, it's got a director and a tentative distributor in Paramount.

Is Sidney in Scream 7?

It remains to be seen whether Sidney Prescott will return for Scream 7. Star Neve Campbell famously didn't return for Scream VI due to a salary dispute. She announced in a statement at the time, "Sadly, I won't be making the next Scream film. As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise."

Why is Sidney not in Scream 6?

In Scream VI, Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) is the one to address Sidney's absence, explaining, "She's taking Mark and the kids somewhere safe. She deserves to have a happy ending."

Director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin explained the script choice to Entertainment Weekly. "For us, you can't make a Scream that doesn't have Sidney's presence in it somewhere, you know? It just felt like we had to make sure that the characters dealt with that in a real, honest, heartfelt way," he said. "And the way that it's dealt with in the movie felt right to us."

When does Scream 7 come out?

No release date has yet been set for Scream 7. The film is one of the countless projects impacted by the AMPTP's refusal to negotiate with SAG-AFTRA and the WGA, resulting in writers' and actors' strikes and a shutdown of almost all Hollywood projects that aren't indies.

Who is in the Scream 7 cast?

The Scream 7 cast hasn't been announced and likely won't be solidified until after the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike ends. That said, The Hollywood Reporter speculates that while Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding and Melissa Barrera don't have deals to return right now, they will likely be back—but that Ortega, who became a household name thanks to Netflix's Wednesday, may be the holdout for a big payday. (And they'd better give it to her!)

As far as legacy Scream stars, it's possible that Neve Campbell will return if they give her the money she deserves (and they should). Hayden Panettiere's Kirby Reed and Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers are also still alive, and there may be flashbacks of Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis and Jack Quaid's Richie Kirsch as well.
