Serena Williams is a bonafide sports icon, but that doesn't mean she's afraid to make a style statement.
The superstar athlete sat down for an interview ahead of presenting her latest S by Serena Williams clothing collection during New York Fashion Week and reflected on some of her all-time favorite fashion moments throughout her career.
During the conversation—which was held in front of an audience of high-profile fashion figures including André Leon Talley, Karlie Kloss, and Elaine Welteroth, per People—Williams revealed that her custom Virgil Abloh–designed Nike x Off-White tutus were two of her favorite tennis court looks. Abloh went on to release an entire Nike collection—titled Queen—inspired by the tennis icon.
"So I thought about that and I was thinking, immediately, the jean skirt that I wore in 2002 with the high boots," said the sports star about her favorite looks. "Then I was like, that's a lie. My favorite things in life are tutus. The tutu look with Virgil. I kept all those dresses." Williams added that she sometimes still wears the ensembles just for fun.
The tennis champ went on to describe why she's not afraid to experiment with fashion when it comes to her on-court looks.
"I am trying things out. Sometimes they're a miss," Williams joked. "I think it's so fun to have fun with fashion and in my sport, I have a great opportunity to play in something really wild and really fun and really express myself."
