Shannon Sharpe Roasted for Extremely Expensive Dog Purchase
When it comes to being a dog dad, Shannon Sharpe doesn't play around. The talk show host and former NFL player was spotted earlier this year seemingly buying a Pomeranian at the airport, and while the suspicious transaction raised eyebrows, it turns out it was because he was willing to spare no expense for the animal.
Sharpe explained how it went down in a new episode of his show Nightcap with fellow retired NFL star Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson. "I got a dog, and the dog was from overseas," he said. "I did [it] because the dog was beautiful, and I wanted one that looked like this."
As for the strange meetup at LAX, Sharpe had a reasonable explanation. "I had to pay a lady to leave her country, fly to another country, pick the dog up, fly to LA, drop the dog off just long enough, and then get back," he detailed. Ochocinco asked his co-host how much he paid for the animal, and when he simply replied "ten," Ocho was confused and at a loss for words.
"Man, you paid $10,000 for a dog? 10,000 American dollars?" Ochocinco said in disbelief. "Come on, man. Unc, man, I could've got you a Pom out [of] the city, man, for 300."
"Help me wrap my head around this, man," he pleaded, explaining he prefers to watch his spending and keep a close eye on his finances. As Sharpe brought the brown Pomeranian on camera, he stated plainly that Teddy is "the one thing that my financial people never question me about."
Ochocinco was charmed by Sharpe's furry friend, but he also questioned if Sharpe would be able to get his money's worth. "He don't talk? Can he do a trick? For $10,000 that motherfucker better be able to do something!" Ocho quipped.
Dropping a cool $10,000 is certainly one way to avoid adopting from the shelter.
