Rihanna is celebrating her 37th birthday. The singer has transformed from wunderkind pop star to billionaire fashion and beauty mogul, all the while maintaining her undisputed status as a style icon. From her early-career days in the aughts to the launch of her Fenty empire in the 2010s, the mononymous superstar has offered fans a glimpse of her personality by way of her fashion sense — and she doesn’t let a harsh northeast winter bring her wardrobe down.
The Barbados-born star, who now parents two children with partner A$AP Rocky, has been out and about in New York City quite a bit lately, far away from the warmth of the Caribbean. Even when in Los Angeles, which experiences a milder winter, she’s shown off stylish boots. From the classic to the unique, from the cozy to the edgy, Rihanna has a wardrobe of winter-ready shoes for seemingly every occasion. Rihanna was giving back to A$AP Rocky’s native Harlem in December, stepping out with her beau to engage with the community at the Boys & Girls of Club of Harlem. Luxuriously cozy is one way to describe her outfit that day, which was an elevated take on a classic sweatshirt look. A pair of beige Amina Muaddi boots featuring ribbed knit fabric complemented the ensemble, matching her snug energy while still boosting her look with a heel.
The “Love on the Brain” singer keeps Bottega Veneta’s Haddock Lace-Up Ankle Boot in her footwear rotation. The shoes are crafted with nubuck calfskin and feature the brand’s Intrecciato design at the collar. Out and about on Dec. 29, she paired the shoes with jeans, a graphic T-shirt and a cropped jacket. She had previously stepped out wearing the shoes with a different easygoing outfit including baggy jeans, a hooded jacket, layers of chunky jewelry and a navy blue bandana wrapped around her hair.
A slipper is typically thought of as a simple indoor shoe keeping your feet warm at home. But Rihanna doesn’t limit herself to that conception — early in the new year, she slipped on a pair of mules from a collaboration between Ugg and Palace Tasman. The slippers feature a colorful embroidered pattern including a dragon and a mountain, making a vibrant statement that complemented her slouchy jeans and fuzzy oversized coat.
Even people in Los Angeles need a coat and a closed-toe shoe sometimes. Rihanna supported her partner A$AP Rocky throughout his trial in Los Angeles this winter, where he was eventually found not guilty of shooting his former friend A$AP Relli.
The “Stay” singer chose to wear snakeskin print boots from one of her favorite brands, Amina Muaddi, to court on more than one occasion. The Barbara boot features neutral earth tones in its reptilian design, making it easy to incorporate the shoes into a variety of ensembles. She wore the shoes on at least three different occasions while in Los Angeles of late, pairing them with creased trousers and a pinstriped top; a statement green reptilian coat; and a Canadian tuxedo and a long leather jacket.
