Shushu/Tong Leans Into TikTok’s Viral Coquette Aesthetic With New Asics Collaboration
Shushu/Tong is joining forces with Asics with another collaboration.
On Dec. 15, the Shanghai-based brand teased its new shoes on Instagram. The image showcased a luxe black leather sneaker that featured the brand’s signature ruffle detailing. The sneaker was sitting on top of a white cake, surrounded by an assortment of desserts. The sweet treats were resting on a blue and white plaid tablecloth, a preview of the colorways that were to come. The brand credited the photography to Beijing-based photographer Effy Yu.

Confirming the sneakers are part of a larger collaboration, Shushu/Tong posted a video of the campaign on Friday. The sneakers also come in a blue gingham colorway, which include the same chunky sole and frill detailing. The collaboration marries the ultra-femininity of the Shushu/Tong brand with the functionality of an Asics sneaker.
Around this time last year, the collaborators launched the Gel MJ shoe. MJ is short for Mary Janes, a reference to the 1900s shoe which has since come back in style. The Gel MJ sneaker was adorned with an oversized bow, once again capitalizing on Shushu/Tong’s hyper-feminine ethos.
Both the Tarther SC Plus and Gel MJ sneakers lean into the viral coquette style, which is defined by having a whimsical and flirtatious demeanor.
Shushu/Tong x Asics Tarther SC PLUS will be released on Dec. 24.
