‘Shy’ Johnny Depp Shares Rare Insight Into His New Life Abroad
The actor opened up about his life in rural England in a new interview.
Johnny Depp is enjoying his life in a small rural town in England following his highly-publicized courtroom trial.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 59, opened up about going from the glitz and glam of Hollywood to the simple pleasures of life in Somerset, England during an interview with local magazine, Somerset Life, for their April issue, per PEOPLE.
Depp revealed to the outlet that his new life brings him a sense of knowing what it's like to live out of the spotlight.
"I can go into shops without being surrounded by people wanting selfies. I don't mind that up to a point, but sometimes it gets a little too crowded," Depp revealed.
He continued: "I don't mind if people want an autograph or a brief chat but not when I am having some private time with my family. British people are cool and will greet you as if you are a neighbor without going over the top."
Despite what some might think of the actor, Depp divulged that the small-town lifestyle suits him best. "In truth, I'm quite a shy person," he said. "That's one of the great things about Britain, and especially Somerset. I can just be me — and that's nice."
"I like going to places, seeing things, and meeting people — but I’m not the great extrovert that people think," he added.
In addition to his love of the countryside, he explained that all of his homes have a special place is his heart.
"I just love places with character. I have various houses in various places and they all mean something special to me. I don't have them just to say I own them, I have them for use and because they are a bit special," Depp revealed.
According to Metro, Depp bought his Somerset home for £13 million—nearly 16 million according to the current exchange rate—in 2014. The Downton Abbey-style estate features 12 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and 850 acres.
