Skittles’ Super Bowl Commercial Will Be An Actual Broadway Musical With A 17-Member Cast
Unless you're a diehard football fan, the Super Bowl is as much about the commercials as it is the game. Brands go All Out for the event, spending insane amounts of money for 30-second clips featuring puppies and beer and all the things that catch people's attention.
Even though previews of this year's commercials just started bubbling up, Skittles went ahead and one-upped 'em all with news of a full-on Broadway musical aptly called "Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical."
The performance will be held on Super Bowl Sunday at 1 p.m. inside New York City's The Town Hall (an event space, not the city's actual town hall). Lest you think this is all a joke, think again-there is a 17-person cast led by a secret celebrity guest who Skittles has yet to announce. The one-time-only performance will feature original songs backed by a live band. Who's ready for a musical version of "Taste the Rainbow" to be stuck in your head?
Tickets for the event already sold out, though those not in town (or quick enough to score a ticket) can follow along on Skittles' website and social media channels, where more details will be revealed leading up to February 3. And while the show poster indicates this whole thing will be weird/funny/ridiculous, the event is helping a good cause, too-proceeds from ticket sales will be matched and donated to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
