Snoop Dogg Shares the Secret to His Long-Lasting Marriage
Snoop Dogg is one of the rare celebrities who's been married to his wife for over 20 years—26, to be exact. While appearing on the Today Show in a Hoda & Jenna segment, the rapper revealed the secret to having a strong, long-lasting marriage to his high school sweetheart, Shante Taylor.
Hoda Kotb pointed out that it's rare for any relationship to "go through all of life's changes and still end up together." She inquired, "Why do you think yours stood the test of time?"
The "Gin and Juice" artist shared, "I think because we were both young and we were both willing to sacrifice for each other. She knew what my dreams and goals were, and at the same time, I knew what hers were."
He continued, "To have a family and to be who we are…we both wanted to get to that goal, and when we reached it, it was hard because we definitely had so many different things pulling you away from marriage, with people divorcing every other day."
The couple had dated for nearly a decade before marrying in 1997.
Snoop offered a poignant nugget of wisdom: "When you truly love somebody, there ain't nothing you can do to break that up."
He added, "I feel like that was true love at first sight."
Though they've been together for a long time, it hasn't always been smooth sailing for the couple. The rapper filed for divorce in 2004, but got back together with Taylor shortly after.
The rapper also spoke about becoming a grandpa to seven grandchildren. He revealed the adorable moniker the children gave him: Papa Noop. He admitted that, as a grandparent, he's made sure not to make the same mistakes he made with his own kids.
The co-hosts shared an adorable video of Snoop's granddaughter CC, who is wandering around the set of one of the artist's projects while holding a mermaid Barbie, trying to find her Papa. Dogg joked, "I won her over with lollipops, because she used to not mess with me. She'd be like, 'Get away from me.'"
