The Songs You Heard at Every Wedding in 2016
If you've been to (what seems like) a million weddings this past year, and you feel like you've heard the same songs over and over again, you might be onto something. There are certain tunes that DJs and brides and grooms gravitate toward when building a playlist for the big day-and for good reason! They're catchy, romantic, and totally wedding-worthy. Some songs, like "At Last" by Etta James and "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire are quintessential wedding classics. Others are newer releases from artists like Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars that became instant hits at couples' celebrations. But old or new, the most-played songs at this year's weddings have one thing in common: They get guests out on the dance floor. In honor of the approaching New Year, we're looking back at the most popular wedding songs of 2016.
With the help of Spotify, we've created an exclusive playlist featuring the top 100 wedding songs. So put your earbuds in, and get inspired to create your own party playlist-or just to jam out!
1. "Thinking Out Loud" – Ed Sheeran
Coming in at number one for the second year in a row is this romantic number, normally played as the first dance song. Lyrics like, "Take me into your loving arms," and "We found love right where we are," will give you chills.
2. "Marry You" – Bruno Mars
This song came out in 2010, but it's still one of the top songs played at weddings. Not only is it a fun, upbeat song, but it's also super sweet.
3. "All of Me" - John Legend
Legend wrote this love song for wife Chrissy Teigen, so you know it's meaningful and real-a great first dance option.
4. "A Thousand Years" – Christina Perri
This slow number will show how much you two love each other.
5. "Marry Me" – Train
The aptly titled Train song features just-as-fitting lyrics: "Together can never be close enough for me, feel like I am close enough to you. You wear white and I'll wear out the words 'I love you.'"
6. "You Are the Best Thing" – Ray LaMontagne
We love this upbeat folk rock/soul number for a recessional song.
7. "Uptown Funk" – Mark Ronson
Just like the lyrics, this hit is that ice cold number that will always get guests up out of their seats.
8. "My Girl" – The Temptations
A song that spans the generations, the entire party will be swaying to this classic.
9. "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" – Whitney Houston
If Mom isn't belting out, "I wanna dance with somebody, with somebody that loves me," we'd be shocked.
10. "At Last" – Etta James
At last, we've come to the top 10 song of the list-a true classic.
