Sophia Loren's Manager Gives Health Update for Actress After Fall Requires Surgery
Sophia Loren is on the mend after a fall left her with serious injuries and needing surgery over the weekend.
On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Oscar-winning actress' manager, Carlo Giusti, shared a positive update, telling People, "The surgery went extremely well."
"She has started the rehabilitation and slowly is recovering," Giusti added. "There is no other news at the moment."
As Parade reported earlier this week, the Italian-born star was hospitalized after falling in the bathroom of her Swiss home on Sunday, Sept. 24, just four days after celebrating her 89th birthday.
According to previous reports, the actress sustained several broken bones, including fractures to her femur and hip, which required emergency surgery to address.
The initial news of her fall was announced in a social media post by the restaurant she was set to open in the Italian city of Bari this week—the fourth in the chain of Sophia Loren restaurants bearing her name.
"A fall at her home in Geneva today caused Ms Loren hip fractures. Operated with a positive outcome, she will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation," the translated statement explained.
"Thankfully everything worked out for the best and the Lady will be back with us very soon. The whole team at Sophia Loren Restaurant takes this opportunity to wish her a speedy recovery."
Loren was also reportedly set to receive honorary citizenship from the city, however, all her planned engagements for the foreseeable future have been canceled at this time.
