Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to be released on the PS5 this Friday, and ahead of the game’s release, reviews have started being published. At the time of writing, over 120 professional reviews have been published for Spider-Man 2 — and it sounds like the game is pretty damn good.

Right now, on review score aggregator Metacritic, Spider-Man 2 has a weighted aggregate metascore of 91/100, with 122 reviews included in its listings. That’s pretty damn good, and one of the best scores of any game this year so far, with only a few higher profile games left to be released in 2023.

Of those 122 reviews, five of them aren’t scored, but the remaining 117 scored reviews show that Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic game. There are a few 100/100 scores on the board, as with any big game like this, but the more interesting stat is that there isn’t a single score below 80/100.

Some reviewers have said it’s “the greatest superhero game ever made,” others praise it for its inventive, if iterative, gameplay, and more still have praised it for its story, graphics, and progression.

One point in particular that we’ve noticed across multiple reviews from the press is that Spider-Man 2’s side quests are all standalone campaigns, rather than simply being story-light time killers like in the first game.

GLHF’s own Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review is available to read on videogames.si.com, and we were similarly impressed with the game. With a score of 9/10, GLHF’s review says it has some of the best movement and controls in any video game, and despite not doing anything particularly new, it does everything right, with a level of refinement and polish rarely seen in games.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on PS5 on October 20, 2023. Sony released a new Spider-Man 2 launch trailer in time for release day, and it gives us a great look at what players can expect from the game.
