Spring Cleaning: How to Get the Most Money for Your Fashion Merch on eBay
It is prime spring cleaning time — but before you start rummaging through your closet, Yahoo Style is here to help you get the most bang for your buck for those castaway items you’ll soon be putting in your “to sell” pile.
Yahoo Style consulted eBay to find out which fashion items are the most popular and have the biggest selling power on their global marketplace. EBay determined that Louis Vuitton handbags are some of the most valuable. EBay took an average of different Louis Vuitton handbag types and found that new ones can be sold for upwards of $1,000 on the site, while used bags are typically sold within the $600 to $700 range.
Another trending and valuable item is the iconic Burberry trench coat. If you have a used one, you can expect to earn approximately $160 to $200, while a new coat can bring in $400 to $500.
What else made the list? A wide variety of popular fashion shoes and accessories from designers such as 3.1 Phillip Lim, Stuart Weitzman, and Rihanna‘s footwear line, Fenty Puma.

Take clear, detailed images.
“To maximize visual appeal, include multiple photos of the item from different angles in good light with a plain background.”
This includes photographing clothes on hangers, and including close-up photos of hangtags, “patterns, trims, or textured materials.” For shoes, make sure to take photos at all angles, “top, sides, and soles.” For bags, be certain to show the interior and exterior. Especially if an item is used, be transparent and photograph all “flaws and scuffs.”
Create an effective title.
“Titles affect how your item will show up in search results, so remember to include important keywords like the brand name, size, or other descriptors that a buyer might look for.”
Write a detailed listing.
“Accurate descriptions help your buyers shop with confidence. Be sure to describe the condition of your item, including the brand, style, and model number, and be upfront about any flaws or if the item is pre-owned.”
Determine the best price.
“On ebay.com, search for active listings or sold items to see what your item (or one that’s similar) is selling for. That will help determine a fair price for both you and the buyer.”
Make a competitive price.
“Buyers are often searching for items that have a low combined price and shipping charge, so price your items competitively and you’ll get the best results.”
