Stephen A. Smith Went Off on a Caller About the Movie 'Cars'
Stephen A. Smith is known for his over-the-top on-air personality that has gotten him into an argument or two over the years. On the Nov. 21 episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, the First Take host got into a heated exchange with a caller—not about sports, but about Pixar's 2006 hit movie Cars.
A caller simply named "Danny from Wisconsin" wanted Smith's thoughts on one forgotten athlete when thinking about the greatest of all time. Danny asked Smith where Lightning McQueen and his seven Piston Cup wins stood in the GOAT debate. McQueen, of course, is the red protagonist of the beloved movie voiced by Owen Wilson.
"I would tell you he wouldn't be the GOAT. How are you going to be the GOAT? You’re talking about the movie Cars, right?" Smith asked Danny for clarification. Smith then swiftly mentioned the fact that McQueen is tied with fellow racecar Strip "The King" Weathers with seven Piston Cup titles. "How can you be the GOAT if you've got somebody that's tied with you?"
"Strip Weathers has seven Piston Cups," Smith stated plainly. “I am not about to sit here and argue with a grown ass man about the movie Cars." He continued to emphasize the turquoise racecar's record in comparison to McQueen's.
Tensions soon boiled over and Smith didn't have time for the 21-year-old caller.
"You're not a little kid," Smith yelled at him. "You're 21. You would have a point if you were seven years old calling me. You're 21 years old. What are you doing, wearing a diaper? Goodbye, man."
Being such an expert on the Cars franchise, Smith could easily have a role in a possible fourth film if Pixar pursues it.
