9 fun things to do this Labor Day weekend with family and friends
Mark the end of summer with this list of fun things to do with family and friends this weekend.
Labor Day marks the end of summer and is meant to celebrate hard-working Americans all across the country. It's a chance to spend time with family and friends before the craziness of the holidays begins.
What will you be doing this Labor Day weekend? We're sharing nine fun things you can do with family and friends to honor the holiday's history and unplug for an enjoyable three-day weekend.
1. Display the American flag
Put up a flag to celebrate our country, its people, and American workers everywhere.
If you have a flagpole and already do this, good for you! If you don't, you can buy one that mounts on your house or porch railing.
2. Bbq with family and friends
Memorial Day weekend is an excellent opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
Plan a barbecue with all the trimmings and invite all your favorite people. Clean up that grill, have everyone pitch in, and bring their favorite side dish or dessert. It makes it easier for you, and everyone will surely have something they like to eat.
3. Yard games
If you are having a get-together with family and friends, don't forget the yard games. Throw up a volleyball or badminton net or start a game of touch football.
Cornhole or ring toss are popular backyard games for all ages!
4. Have brunch with friends
Labor Day weekend can be busy, and you may not be able to get together with everyone you want to see.
Plan a brunch with friends to catch up on what's going on in their lives. Meet up at a favorite restaurant or host in your home for a more casual atmosphere.
5. Hit the Labor Day sales
Labor Day weekend is definitely a huge sales weekend, and you can pick up some great deals.
Head to your favorite stores to pick up that must-have item or browse for deals. It is a great time to shop to refresh your wardrobe for fall or grab great deals on summer wear to stock up for next year.
6. Go to the beach
Ah, the beach. There's nothing else quite like sitting in the sand or swimming in the ocean.
If you have the ocean or a lake close to you, plan a day at the beach over the Labor Day weekend. It may be your last chance to enjoy the warm weather and water. Pack a cooler with drinks and snacks, and take your beach towels and an umbrella if you have one.
Don't forget the sunscreen!
7. Camp in the backyard
You may not be able to take a camping trip this Labor Day weekend, but you can still enjoy the great outdoors right in your backyard.
Pitch a tent and camp out under the stars. Unplug and enjoy the time with family. It is one of our favorite things to do with the kids.
8. Light up the firepit
There is nothing like hanging out around a warm fire pit in the cooler evenings. Make some S'mores - the ultimate outdoor snack, chat, and enjoy the evening.
If you don't have a firepit or space for one, you can make a simple grill table with a portable grill and outdoor table. Or you can also buy a small tabletop firepit.
9. Have a backyard movie night
Set up an outdoor movie screen and projector, and invite friends and family for a backyard movie night.
Everyone can bring their own chairs or blankets, make popcorn, and have other snacks and drinks for a fun evening under the stars.
