Sudden 'FBI' Death Spells Big Changes for Agent Maggie Bell
So much for that Rookie Blue reunion. FBI just dealt a devastating blow to Special Agent Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym) just two episodes after reuniting her with old friend and coworker Jessica Blake (Charlotte Sullivan). It was a reunion both onscreen and off, since Peregrym and Sullivan starred together on Rookie Blue for six seasons, but it was unfortunately short-lived. Jessica died at the end of Tuesday's episode ("Unforeseen"), leaving behind a young daughter without a mother.

The episode was tense all the way through as the team chased down whoever was behind a series of ricin attacks across the city. While investigating a sort of improvised ricin lab, Jessica collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Upon waking up, she learned it wasn't the ricin that made her sick. She was diagnosed with "a mild aneurysm" and needed exploratory surgery. But first, she'd have to name an emergency contact and a guardian for Ella should anything happen, and she named Maggie.
Of course, that request came after multiple prior conversations in which Maggie talked about how she wanted to start IVF, but was nervous about the concept of motherhood. Jessica told her she can't always be in control of everything, and by the time Jessica was calling Maggie to ask her to take care of her kid, the writing was on the wall. Jessica wasn't making it out of that hospital alive.
Maggie survived a harrowing chase and an attack by ricin-filled sprinklers and made it to the hospital just in time to find out that Jessica had died in surgery. "We did everything we could," the doctor said. "Her blood pressure dropped during the operation and we tried to resuscitate her but unfortunately it was too late." And that was the end of the episode!
Earlier in the day, Peregrym had posted a few stills from the episode on Instagram, leading with one of Maggie and Jessica. She captioned it, "??Tonight is a huge episode for Maggie—You don't want to miss it." She certainly wasn't wrong, and time will tell how her new guardianship will affect her dangerous job.
The Canadian drama series Rookie Blue aired from 2010 to 2015 and followed a group of rookie cops in Toronto, fresh out of the academy. Peregrym starred as Andy McNally, and Sullivan played friend and colleague Gail Peck.
FBI airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
