Bayside Restaurant, Westport

Bayside Restaurant celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and it's no wonder they've been a crowd pleaser for so long.

Highlights that keep folks far and near coming back include their long list of "famous" offerings, including their cornbread, Maple Seafood Medley, baked scrod, and lobster roll.

Other tasty eats you'll find on their menu include Poor Man's Surf N Turf (burger topped with lobster meat), chicken and waffles, fish and chips, seafood chowder, housemade cod cakes, Rhode Island calamari and Portuguese linguica and jack cheese quesadilla.

With a fire pit outside to keep you cozy, you can still enjoy the salty, cool breeze well into the fall. Last year, Bayside remained open through Nov. 12, but no closing date has been announced for 2024.

Bayside Restaurant is located at 1253 Horseneck Road.

Ice cream season winds down

As days shift from hot and humid to crisp and cool, the clock ticks of some local favorite ice cream spots.

Savor the summer with a trip to seasonal go-to's such as Seagull Scoops in Fall River, Somerset Creamery and Simcock Farm in Swansea, which are only open into the early fall.

And don't wait to get in on the Sundae Funday specials at Eskimo King in Swansea, which closes for the season Monday, Oct. 14. One recent mouth-watering offering that coincided with Portuguese feast time was the “Mais Fica,” featuring a malassada topped with vanilla soft serve, caramel, a cinnamon sugar sprinkle, whipped cream and a cherry.

Ice Cream Barn in Swansea and Gray's Ice Cream in Tiverton are year-round destinations, but best enjoyed on a warm day.
