This T-Shirt Raises Money to Crush the Stigma of Men’s Mental Health
MENTAL HEALTH IS important. In 2021, men should be able to acknowledge that. According to Mental Health America, the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting the overall mental health of all, data from their screening program showed over 70 percent of screeners who identify as male scored positive or moderate to severe for a mental health condition, and over 60 percent of these screeners have never received any prior treatment or support.
The numbers show we need to encourage a positive dialogue around mental health, and there’s never been a better time.
Men’s Health wants to help. That’s why for Men’s Health Month, we’re introducing our (MEN)TAL HEALTHY campaign. Partnering with premium performance lifestyle brand Rhone, we’ve designed a limited-edition t-shirt to help more men get comfortable talking about how they feel.
Featuring the (MEN)TAL HEALTHY logo, it’s available for $38 in two different colorways at rhone.com. One hundred percent of the net proceeds will go to will benefit Mental Health America.
“Mental Health is an increasingly important content pillar for us, and one that we hope becomes as synonymous with the idea of ‘health’ as fitness and nutrition have been historically," says Richard Dorment, Men's Health Editor-in-Chief. "Rhone has been an incredible partner in helping to make this a reality. Together, our shared goal is to destigmatize mental wellness.”
After a particularly trying year, normalizing conversations around our mental health has never been more important. At Men’s Health, our mission is to help men live stronger, faster, and better lives—and that includes taking care of your mental health. To provide men with the resources and encouragement to live healthier lives, we know collaboration between like-minded brands is key making a difference to finally crushing the stigma around men’s mental health.
"Too often, men avoid talking about mental health when they’re struggling. We're thrilled that Rhone has decided to partner with us and has committed to normalizing these conversations," said Paul Gionfriddo, president and CEO of Mental Health America. "Men’s Health and Rhone are encouraging men to talk in the open about how they're doing and that will go a long way toward the shared goal of improving mental health for all."
(MEN)TAL HEALTHY is about creating a space for a collective dialogue about men and mental health. To that end, we’re asking you to share your stories, to help us dismantle the stigma around talking about feelings. We invite you to offer your mental health journey on Instagram with the hashtag #MentalHealthy, tagging @menshealthmag and @rhone.
Join us for a Men's Wellness Summit, which we're co-hosting with our friends at Rhone and Evryman, as part of our (MEN)TAL HEALTHY campaign to ignite the conversation around men and mental health on Thursday, June 3rd 4pm EST. Because together we can change the conversation for the better.
