Tamarack Marketplace celebrates West Virginia Day
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Happy West Virginia Day!
Tamarack Marketplace did the Mountain State holiday up right with a lineup of activities at the popular destination.
West Virginia Day celebration to be held at Tamarack Marketplace
West Virginia took over the Marketplace on Thursday, June 20, 2024, and the state colors of blue and gold were everywhere. Tamarack was packed with visitors from out of state and locals coming to celebrate their heritage with the activities planned.
Ryan Brandenburg, a singer-songwriter from Fayette County, was playing in the courtyard. Brandenburg said he’s excited for his set.
“Yeah, I’m excited to play on West Virginia Day, hopefully a lot of people show up, we’ll see. I got some West Virginia Artists being represented,” said Brandenburg. “A lot of my own original music that’s written here and about West Virginia.”
Brandenburg planned to play some Bill Withers and Hazel Dickens, as well as one of the state’s official songs, “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver.
As a West Virginia native, Brandenburg had his thoughts on what people should do for the holiday.
“[I’m] always gonna recommend hiking the Gorge, maybe whitewater rafting, seeing the Bridge, all of the fun stuff to do at New River Gorge National Park is always my number one recommendation.” said Brandenburg.
Tamarack continued to churn out the pepperoni rolls and hardly anyone could resist. This included three more West Virginia natives, each from a different part of the state.
Brendan Walsh from Elkins, Mike Doman from Morgantown, and Jordan Ekers from Fayetteville. Each gentleman had their own recommendations for what to do in their parts of the state.
“I mean, Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks, anything, you know, nature.” recommended Walsh.
Doman put forth, “Any sporting event in Morgantown, it’s always busy, always happening!”
“Fayetteville’s got the Gorge, go rafting, go on a trail!” said Ekers.
