Taraji P. Henson giving off major Diana Ross disco vibes is everything
Dear Hollywood: If you’re searching for a leading lady to star in your next film set in the ’70s, Taraji P. Henson may be your woman.
The 47-year-old attended the 2017 Billboard Women in Music Awards sporting a huge Afro and color-block chiffon Schiaparelli Fall 2017 couture gown that instantly made us think of Diana Ross. According to Henson’s hairstylist, Tym Wallace, the inspiration for her look was indeed “the Boss, the Diva, Diana Ross in the 1975 film Mahogany.”
“It was very effortless — showing off lots of volume, texture, and what Taraji loves,” he tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
Wallace is the ‘mane man’ behind Henson’s hottest hairstyles, from her razor-sharp bobs to waist-long ponytails. He recently gave the Empire actress a tapered copper cut that accentuated her natural hair. But for the Billboard Women in Music Awards, Henson reached for the curling iron and extensions to achieve this larger-than-life vision.
“She trusts me with her look,” says Wallace. “It’s a team effort, she lets us creatively come together.” He prepped Henson’s hair with Dove Quench Absolute Leave-In Detangler. Next, Wallace used the FHI 3/4-inch curling iron and wanded the entire head of hair. An Olivia Garden brush helped to loosen texture. To finish, Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing was applied to add volume and maintain hold.
