Welcome Back, Taylor Swift's (Old) Signature Style!

Usually when a woman changes her style to match her boyfriend’s, it’s only her friends who talk sh-t behind her back. But when that woman is Taylor Swift, it’s the whole world.

Early this spring, back when Swifty was still deeply loved up with Adam “Calvin Harris” Wiles, the Internet seemed quite determined to mathematically evaluate just how much the pop star had altered her signature look to better suit her then-boyfriend’s. Gone were the girly matching skater skirt sets, red pout, and terrible high-heeled Oxfords, replaced instead by dark lipstick, bleached hair, and (still terrible) gothic choker necklaces.

But things seem to be taking a turn. As you most certainly know, Swift and ACHW broke up a few weeks ago, and as the fates would have it, she’s already found herself a new dude, actor Tom Hiddleston. And now that the shock of that new relationship has worn off, fans are turning their attention to another thrilling development: Swift’s style seems to be returning to its pre-Calvin Harris state.

Take, for example, the outfit she wore to see BFF Selena Gomez’s concert, which she attended with Hiddleston. The two-piece Reformation getup was comprised of a cranberry-hued crop top and matching midi-skirt — very flirty, very old school Taylor Swift. Even what she wore in those very first, un-staged, oceanfront paparazzi snaps — a brown sweater, short printed skirt, and dingdingding! Oxfords — was brimming with feminine, vintage Swifty vibes. If we didn’t have the sequence of Taylor Swift’s every relationship memorized by heart, we’d think the photos were from 2014.

We reached out to Logan Levkoff, a PhD who specializes in the areas of sex and relationships, to find out if Swift’s wardrobe quick-change is worth everyone freaking out over. Her answer? Nope — everyone does it.

“It’s not a surprise that our fashion sense evolves from relationship to relationship,” Levkoff tells Yahoo Style. “We are constantly trying to figure out who we are and how to express ourselves. As we learn about ourselves more in each relationship we are in, It can certainly impact how we express ourselves to the rest of the world.”

So it sounds like it could be a case of Swifty — who, reminder, is still only 26 — simply trying on different hats. And speaking of hats, it’s been more than a hot minute since she wore one of those. Will her trusty old bowler be the next thing to make a return appearance from the depths of her undoubtedly professionally organized walk-in closet? We’ll just have to wait and see. But please, Swifty… this time ’round, leave the heeled Oxfords at home.
