How Taylor Swift Was Connected to the Chiefs Before Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift
It turns out that Travis Kelce was not the establishing connection that Taylor Swift has to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The "Sweeter Than Fiction" singer has known head coach Andy Reid since she was young. Her dad, Scott Swift, is a big football fan, and Reid used to coach her home team, the Philadelphia Eagles, where they met for the first time.
In fact, he even recently joked that he was responsible for setting the (alleged) power couple up with one another, jonesing for a little credit when it comes to the sudden influx of interest in the NFL—more specifically, the Chiefs—as a result of their yet-to-be-formally-confirmed relationship.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the coach spoke up at a press conference following the first game Swift attended, joking that he'd "set them up." He later elaborated on Tuesday's episode of The Five Spot, explaining that he'd first been introduced to the singer "when she was real young."
"I joked about setting Kelce up, and, you know, I'm just saying!" he continued.
Of the hype surrounding her recent stadium appearances, Reid said that they were "glad she's here," given the excitement that she brings.
It's not clear yet how the pair finally got in touch with one another, but Kelce made the first move when he opened up about his disappointment after failing to get a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it to the touring artist. A few months later, Swift was spotted at her first Chiefs game to support the tight end and his team, though both have remained mostly mum about their blossoming relationship.
